Numb and stuck in a vicious cycle from generational trauma?
It’s like a never-ending battle in your head; the picture you had of what life was supposed to look like is drastically different than reality. What the hell happened? You did ALL the things. ALL of them!! It hasn’t seemed to work out for you, like it does for others.
You’re not crazy! People tell me all the time how “messed up” they believe they are. Spoiler alert! Someone that is able to still pull off the day and activities of daily life to some degree isn’t crazy! You at least got some of the people fooled, but not all.
The “mask” phenomenon
How is the people-pleasing/procrastinating show going these days? Not so good for you, either?!
Putting on the show for everyone will eventually rot you from the inside out. Serving others to your detriment is not the answer. If the idea of sharing “who you really are” with people causes your blood to run cold, you’re in for a shock! You’ll never outrun yourself. You can’t out-smoke, drink, sleep, use, lie, cry, etc. the self.
Pickin up what I’m puttin’ down here, folks? Trying to maintain an image of dishonest harmony creates the paradigm that is people-pleasing vs. procrastinating. Apparently, it’s humanity’s worst perceived personality flaw; yet, the cycle continues.


Who’s right, then? Me or them?
Having the experiences I’ve had in two different dominant religions, it would appear the results are the same for a human spirit that isn’t nourished by the rules and norms they’re expected to follow.
Being a child is pretty damn tough. Too many times to count, I’ve witnessed a child’s spirit diminish in the face of being “wrong.” Unworthy. The guilt that consumes people is real, and it takes a physical toll on the body. So, no, it’s not just you. Growing up in a deeply religious environment has a tendency to make some people miserable, despite the iron mask with a perma-smile.
TikTok, my friends, and talk therapy don’t work, now what?
Sorry, not sorry! C’mon, y’all! Get real with me! The stuff we are so busy consuming that adds up to zip in the end could be so much better spent: both time and money wise! You have identified there is a problem, and it’s a cycle. So if you’re so aware, then how come behavior isn’t changing?
Emotions that are stuck in the body and haven’t been moved out will cloud your intention and motivation! The shame and discouragement you feel makes change seem impossible, and scientifically, this makes perfect sense. Freeze mode is real.
Frozen, time is slipping away
Stop sitting on the sidelines and losing yourself, doubting yourself, making your brain work overtime just to stay above water. That’s not fair to you or the people around you, and they can’t fix it for you.
Little tip from a therapist: brain and body are moving in the direction of health; we are the ones that get in the way. By not making this choice, it’s like pulling off a scab over and over, endlessly. Seriously? Ouch.
There is another way.
Breathe. Slow down, just for a moment. Now, let’s get real.
